This bike is used primarely for commuting. That is why it is equipped with a carrying rack and fenders. Since none of the fenders available on the (norwegian) market is long enough, the front fender is made out of two fenders. Part of an old fender is used to extend the fender so that dirt from the front tire does not mess up the crank wheels and the chain.
Still, half-melted snow mixed with salt do make winter riding very difficult. One day, the salty water get into the derailleur and cables. The next day, when the temperature has dropped to well below zero (deg. C), the derailleurs and/o cables are frozen... making gear shifting difficult or even impossible.

I use the bike to get to/from work every day. The ride goes mostly on public roads, but I also have to ride on private roads. The condition of the private road are not always the best. During winter the roads can be everyting between dry and dusty, wet and muddy to icy or covered with snow. A few times the snow is so deep that it is almost impossible to ride through it - I have to push (and even carry) the bike through the snow.

During the winter I use Nokia studded wintertires, which is great on ice. They are among the best winter-tires I have ever tried, but sometime even the studded tires does not make my trip to work safe.
